The NPEDC emerged
as a corporate entity in its present shape after
the Economic Services Centre was reorganized in
February 1994. With the formation of the National
Productivity Council (NPC) under the Chairmanship
of Honorable Minister of Industry in 1994, NPEDC
has been designated as the Secretariat of the
Council. Accordingly, the objective and service
areas of NPEDC have been oriented towards giving
main thrust on facilitation of productivity improvement
activities in the country. Productivity promotion
and productivity training, research and consultancy
services in the areas of economic development,
industrial promotion, management, technology,
and environment in addition to productivity management
as an area of institutional specialization and
priority. It is effortful to extend and strengthen
its linkages with institutions and professionals
working for productivity development activities.
It also countinues to share experiences, information
and ideas with national and international institutions
in order to attain the goal of nation-building
through improved productivity aiming at enhancing
competitiveness and attaining better quality of
life.
